Indian Embassy in Bahrain celebrates Punjab’s rich heritage under ODOP initiative
PTC Web Desk: The Indian Embassy in Bahrain hosted a vibrant event celebrating the rich culture and heritage of Punjab as part of India's “One District One Product” (ODOP) initiative. The event, held under the patronage of H.E. Vinod K Jacob, Ambassador of India to Bahrain, aimed to raise global awareness of India’s diverse cultural identity, unique products, and tourism potential.
The ODOP programme, launched earlier this year, highlights the distinct products, traditions, and attractions of each Indian state. During his address, Ambassador Jacob emphasised the initiative’s importance in showcasing the uniqueness of every region. “The ODOP initiative highlights the significance of each state by focusing on its unique products, culture, and tourism opportunities,” he said.
In a warm gesture, the Ambassador spoke to the Punjabi audience in their native language, strengthening the connection with the community and honouring Punjab’s cultural heritage.
KN Singh, a prominent member of the Punjabi community, delivered a speech on the state’s cultural richness. He said events like these served as a platform for both Indians and Bahrainis to gain a deeper understanding of Punjab’s history and traditions.
The cultural group 'Punjabi Virsa' was the centerpiece of the evening, curating an impressive display of Punjabi products and presenting a variety of cultural performances. Highlights included the traditional Jaggo celebration, soulful Punjabi folk songs, and the lively Giddha dance, performed by students from New Millennium School, professionals, and homemakers. The performances infused the event with energy and color, showcasing Punjab’s vibrant cultural expressions.
A standout feature of the evening was the food, arranged with the collaboration of Salmabad Gurdwara Sahib, Desi Zaika, Punjab Premium Sweets, and Punjabi Virsa. Guests enjoyed an array of authentic Punjabi dishes, which added to the cultural immersion of the event.
The celebration attracted a diverse audience, including members of the Punjabi community, other Indian nationals, and Bahraini locals.
