Indian-run pharma plant in Ukraine hit by Russian drone attack, one killed
PTC News Desk: A major pharmaceutical plant in Ukraine owned by India’s Kusum Group was hit by Russian drone strikes, leaving one person dead and several others injured.
The plant, located in Sumy, suffered extensive damage, with most of the main building reportedly destroyed. Officials said the number of casualties could change as rescue and assessment operations continue. Videos from the site showed thick smoke rising from the area after the attack.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the family of the person who was killed. The Sumy plant had continued operating despite the Russia-Ukraine war but has now suffered major losses, estimated at around Rs 400 crore or more.
"This morning, the Russians once again struck the Pivnichnyi Bridge in Kyiv with a drone. They attacked an ordinary pharmaceutical warehouse in Sumy with drones. Tragically, one person was killed. My condolences to the family and loved ones. In Dnipro, they struck a communications facility. Six people were injured as a result of these attacks," he said.
Russia has stepped up its use of Shahed drones in Ukraine, launching dozens of the relatively low-cost, jet-powered drones on some days. Ukraine's air defence forces have faced difficulties intercepting them.
Meanwhile, Ukraine said it had used its domestically developed FP-7 ballistic missile in combat for the first time. The missile reportedly has a range of around 250 km.
