Israel-Iran conflict: Israel braces for possible Iranian attack in retaliation for Damascus embassy killing

PTC Web Desk: Israel is preparing for a potential direct attack from Iran in retaliation for the recent killing of a senior officer in Iran's embassy in Damascus. US intelligence reports suggest the retaliation could occur as early as Sunday, sparking concerns about a possible regional conflict. US President Joe Biden has warned Israel about the possibility of an Iranian strike, urging the clerical state to refrain from any aggressive actions. Biden told reporters that the attack could happen "sooner than later" and advised Iran against striking Israel. According to reports from the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg, one of the likely scenarios includes an attack on Israel from Iranian territory using drones and precision missiles. This assault could take place within the next 24 hours. Iran has a considerable arsenal of ballistic and cruise missiles capable of striking targets up to 2,000 km away, according to a new Defense Intelligence Agency report. The US has increased its military presence in the region, deploying two Navy destroyers to the Eastern Mediterranean Sea to support air defense and protect American forces and Israel. The US is also working diplomatically to deescalate tensions, engaging with Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and other nations. US Central Command head General Michael Kurilla has been sent to Israel for emergency discussions on the Iranian threat. The situation escalated when an Israeli airstrike targeted the Iranian consulate in Damascus, resulting in seven deaths, including two Iranian generals. Iran responded by stating its readiness for war and intent to retaliate against Israel. Israel has been on high alert since then, recalling combat troops, mobilizing reserves, and enhancing its air defense systems. The Israeli military disrupted navigational signals over Tel Aviv to counter potential drone and missile attacks.
