One passenger killed, 30 hurt as flight hit by severe turbulence ; check details

PTC Web Desk: In a tragic incident, one passenger was killed while 30 others were injured when a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore was hit by severe turbulence. The Singapore-bound Boeing 777-300ER was diverted to Bangkok and landed at 15:45 local (08:00 GMT).

The Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore was forced to make an emergency landing in Thailand after being hit by severe turbulence. Boeing 777-300ER was carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members. It departed from Heathrow Airport in London on Monday evening. However, it met with severe turbulence over the Bay of Bengal, south of the southern tip of Myanmar. The flight was supposed to arrive at Singapore Changi Airport at 6. 10 pm local time.


As many as 30 passengers were injured, according to Thai media reports. The flight made an emergency landing at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok shortly before 4 pm local time.

In a statement on Facebook, Singapore Airlines also confirmed the incident. "We can confirm that there are injuries and one fatality on board the Boeing 777-300ER. There were a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew on board. Singapore Airlines offers its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. Our priority is to provide all possible assistance to all passengers and crew on board the aircraft. We are working with the local authorities in Thailand to provide the necessary medical assistance, and sending a team to Bangkok to provide any additional assistance needed," says the report.
