Six dead after gunman opens fire at Bangkok food market

PTC Web Desk: A tragic mass shooting was reported in Thailand on Monday, claiming the lives of at least six persons. Four of the victims have been identified as security guards working at Or Tor Kor Market, a popular fresh food market in Bangkok. The attack also left a woman and the gunman dead, who reportedly took their own life after carrying out the assault.

According to reports, the gunman opened fire at the busy market, a short distance from the famed Chatuchak Market, a well-known tourist destination in the Thai capital. Erawan Emergency Medical Centre, which tracks incidents in Bangkok hospitals, confirmed the six deaths, which included both the guards and the woman.


Bangkok's Bang Sue district deputy police chief, Worapat Sukthai, was reported as saying that the authorities are still investigating the motive behind the shooting. So far, the police have confirmed that it is a mass shooting incident. They are also looking into any potential connection between this tragedy and the ongoing border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia.
