Asif Ali Zardari breaks tradition, set to name daughter Aseefa Bhutto as First Lady of Pakistan

PTC Web Desk: In a significant departure from tradition, Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari is reportedly poised to announce his daughter, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, as the First Lady of the country, according to local media reports. This move would mark a break from the customary practice of assigning the title to the President's wife.

Citing an inside source, reports indicate that following the official declaration, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari will be accorded the protocol and privileges typically associated with the role of the First Lady.

Aseefa Bhutto Zardari: A Brief Profile

Aseefa Bhutto Zardari is the daughter of Asif Ali Zardari and the late former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who tragically fell victim to an assassination in 2007.

Born in February 1993, Aseefa is the youngest child of Asif Ali Zardari, following Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari.

Aseefa Bhutto Zardari pursued her education at prestigious institutions, including Oxford Brookes University, University College London, and the University of Edinburgh.

Her political journey reportedly began in 2020 when she made her debut at a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) rally.

Notably, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari serves as Pakistan's Ambassador for polio eradication, reflecting her commitment to public service.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari

PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari recently took the oath of office as the 14th President of Pakistan, marking a historic moment as he assumes the role for a second term. His reelection sets him apart as the sole civilian candidate to hold the position twice, excluding military leaders. Previously, Zardari served as Pakistan's President from 2008 to 2013.

This unconventional decision to appoint Aseefa Bhutto Zardari as the First Lady underscores a departure from established norms in Pakistan's political landscape. The move not only challenges traditional gender roles but also signals a potential shift towards more inclusive practices within the highest echelons of power.

As the nation awaits the official announcement, the choice of Aseefa Bhutto Zardari as the First Lady could pave the way for a new era in Pakistani politics, emphasising the evolving dynamics of leadership and representation in the country.
