Air India handed over to Tata Group after 69 years

New Delhi, January 27: The Tata Group officially took over the management and control of Air India, starting on Thursday. It comes nearly 69 years after its nationalisation. Ahead of the handover, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran met PM Narendra Modi. The Tata Group won the bid to buy Air India, which it founded in 1932, for Rs 18,000 crore. It has completed a cash payment of Rs 2,700 crore.

 The Tata Group says it will focus on improving the airlines' On-Time-Performance. As per reports, the maximum emphasis will be given to ensure that all Air India aircraft fly on time. There will be changes in seating arrangements and also the dress of the cabin crew. Tata is a leading player in the hotel business and it will give top priority to improve the quality of food in the airline, sources said.
