12,000 people evacuated after explosions at Ukrainian ammunition depot

A powerful explosion rocked the local ammunitions depot in Ukraine on Tuesday. Nearly 12,000 people were evacuated from Chernigov city in Northern Ukraine.

A big explosion has hit the Defense Ministry ammunition depot located 176 km east of Ukraine capital.

No causalities were reported so far. It was not clear, whether the explosion was an accident or someone deliberately tried to sabotage it.

The rail and road services have been suspended. The airspace has been closed down in 12 miles radius.

The head of Ukraine armed forces has gone to inspect the site. More than 90 people have been deployed.

There is a record of several fires at the ammunition depot in the previous years. Last year, there was a massive explosion at a military depot in Vynnytsya region. It leads to the evacuation of around 24,000 people.
