20 Killed, 40 Injured In Cairo Railway Station Fire

More than 20 people died and 43 others were injured after a locomotive smashed through the buffers at the main train station in Cairo on Wednesday. According to media reports, the train failed to stop as it arrived at the train station. It smashed through the buffers and exploded into a huge ball of fire.

As the fire started to spread, people who were waiting at the platform with their luggage started running for their lives. According to an eye-witness, he was standing on the platform. He saw the train approaching the platform at high speed. Everyone started running but a lot of people died after the locomotive exploded.

A huge cloud of smoke could be seen outside the railway station. Meanwhile, in the inside, the train was seen standing tilted to one side to a platform.

The Egypt Health Minister, Hala Zayad, told the media that emergency teams had not been able to identify 20 bodies recovered. The bodies were severely burned. The authorities had arrested the train driver.
