Akal Takht Sahib bans controversial movie Nanak Shah Fakir

In a major decision, Akal Takht Sahib, Amritsar on Monday banned the release of - 'Nanak Shah Fakir'.

“The movie will not be released until objections of devotees is removed,” said SGPC spokesperson Diljeet Singh Bedi in a press release earlier.  Devotees and the SGPC say that the movie hurts religious sentiments as it shows Sikh gurus in living form.

The movie is slated for release on April 13.

“We had praised the concept when it was told to us. But, when movie was complete and we saw it, there were objectionale content. And the producer had assured us that he would make the amends and would publicise the same through media. There were some issues with gurbani, which were sorted out. But, the issue relating to some human being playing the role of Guru and his family was yet to be addressed,” said Akal Takht chief Giani Gurbachan Singh, who watched a special screening of the movie with a number of Sikh leaders including Sikh seminary Damdami Taksal head Harnam Singh Khalsa at Delhi some time back.

Previously, the movie was released in April 2015, but four days later, the makers had withdrawn it after directions from the Akal Takht — the highest temporal seat of Sikhs.
