Punjabi actress Japji Khaira joins ‘rail roko’ agitation with Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee

Farmers protest in Punjab: Punjabi actress Japji Khaira on Sunday joined the 'rail roko' agitation in Devi Dasspura Village, in Jandiala, Amritsar. The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee has staged a ‘rail roko’ agitation in a protest against the three farm bills that were passed in the Parliament.

The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee had earlier announced that it will hold a ‘rail roko’ agitation from September 24 to 26 against the Bills. However, the ‘rail roko’ agitation was extended to September 29.

The Committee is sitting on railway tracks in Amritsar to protest against the Farm Bills where Punjabi actress Japji Khaira along with several women joined them and sat with them on Sunday.

Japji Khaira, along with Dev Kharoud sat in with the farmer unions in the Moga district of Punjab on September 24 where farmers were staging a protest against the agriculture bills passed in Parliament recently.

The statewide protest is being staged following the passing of the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, and Essential Commodities Act, in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, during the monsoon session of the Parliament.

The farmers in Punjab along with several Punjabi singers, actors, and directors along with the prominent leaders including those of the Shiromani Akali Dal have been protesting against the farm bills.
