PTC Web Desk:  If you have important banking work scheduled for September, it is worth checking the holiday calendar in advance. Banks will remain closed for a total of 14 days across different states and cities in September 2026.

The closures include regular weekly holidays as well as festivals and regional holidays. However, the exact number of holidays can vary depending on the state.

Customers should plan branch visits accordingly to avoid last-minute inconvenience.

Banks closed on these Saturdays

As per the regular banking holiday schedule, branches across the country will remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of September.

September 12: Second Saturday

September 26: Fourth Saturday

Both dates will be bank holidays across India.

Banks will also remain closed on Sundays

Banks will remain closed on all Sundays in September. The Sunday holidays will fall on:

September 6

September 13

September 20

September 27

Apart from these regular weekly holidays, banks will also have additional holidays in some states and cities because of regional festivals and local occasions.

Check local holiday before visiting your bank

The RBI’s bank holiday calendar includes holidays that may differ from one state to another. Therefore, customers should check the holiday applicable to their particular state or city before visiting a branch.

This is particularly important for people planning cash deposits, withdrawals, document-related work or other services that require a branch visit.

Online banking and ATMs will continue to work

A bank holiday does not mean that all banking services will stop. Customers can continue to use Internet banking, mobile banking, UPI and ATMs for most routine transactions. However, services that require physical interaction with bank staff may only be available when branches reopen.

Stock market to have 9 non-trading days in September

Bank holidays are not the only dates investors should keep in mind. The Indian stock market will also have 9 non-trading days in September 2026.

Eight of these will fall on Saturdays and Sundays, when regular trading does not take place. In addition, the stock market will remain closed on September 14 for Ganesh Chaturthi.

Investors should therefore check the trading calendar before planning transactions around the month’s holidays.
