Punjab Member of Parliament Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra  on Monday in parliament raised the issue of violence and booth capturing during Punjab Panchayat Polls.

Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra  said the state Congress government  not only incited violence during polling but also resorted to booth capturing even as the civil administration remained mute spectators.He added that,the complete hijacking of the panchayat elections by the Congress party is the murder of democracy.

The Panchayat polls concluded on Sunday as over 80% of the 1.27 crore cast their vote in the high-stake Panchayat elections in Punjab amid violence and allegations of rigging and booth capturing from across the state.

There were reports of skirmishes between supporters of the ruling Congress and the opposition parties, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), at Mamdot village in Ferozepur, Village Mandiala in Nakodar, Village in Jaito Village Chandpur in Ajanala , Fazilka and Sangrur and many other villages.

In Ferozepur, one person was killed and many persons were injured in poll-related violence. Ballot box was also set on fire in a booth in Mamdot.

In Gurdaspur Akali workers led by former MLA Dera Baba Nanak Sucha Singh Langah blocked the Road to protest against alleged booth capturing by Congress workers at Village Sikri in Gurdaspur district.
