After Haryana, Srinagar-bound bus attacked with stones in Ludhiana; second incident in two days
The sudden attack caused panic among the passengers, who were travelling from Delhi to Srinagar.
PTC News Desk: A tourist bus carrying passengers from Delhi to Kashmir was pelted with stones near the Doraha flyover on the National Highway, beyond Khanna, around midnight. The same bus had been attacked in Karnal, Haryana, the previous night. The attacks on two consecutive nights have raised concerns about passenger safety.
Around 40 passengers, including children, were travelling on the bus. During the latest incident, stones were thrown at the vehicle near the Doraha flyover. One stone hit the front windshield, while another struck an emergency window. The sudden attack caused panic among the passengers, who were travelling from Delhi to Srinagar.
Khanna SP Rakesh Yadav said the police received information about the incident through the 112 helpline at around 11:15 pm. A police team immediately reached the spot and searched the area.
According to police, the private bus had left Delhi at around 4 pm and was heading towards Srinagar. An unidentified person allegedly threw a stone at the left side of the bus, where passengers were seated, causing a crack in the window glass.
Police have recorded the driver's statement. Taking the incident seriously, senior police officials have formed a digital and technical team to investigate the case. The DSP is personally supervising the investigation.
Second incident in two days
Police said a dispute over parking had broken out between some people and the bus crew at a roadside eatery in Nilokheri, Karnal, Haryana, on October 17. During that incident, two men allegedly threw stones at the bus's windshield and broke the glass. Haryana Police later arrested the accused and registered a case.
Investigators suspect that the latest attack could be linked to an ongoing rivalry, a dispute between private transport operators or the involvement of the same miscreants. Police are coordinating with Haryana Police as part of the investigation.
Police confirmed that no passengers were injured in the latest incident and everyone was safe. As a precaution, a police team escorted the bus through its jurisdiction and informed police stations along the route to help ensure that it reached its destination safely.
An FIR has been registered, and the police have launched an investigation.
