Don’t panic, majority of COVID patients can recover at home: Harsh Vardhan

Amid the second wave of coronavirus in India, the Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Thursday appealed to the citizens to not panic.

He said that a majority of COVID-19 patients can recover at home while being in touch with a doctor. He said that he was not just the country's health minister but also a doctor.

Harsh Vardhan opened up on the scarcity of oxygen in many hospitals across the country. He said that having the right information regarding oxygen the life-saving gas was very crucial.

He requested people to have appropriate knowledge regarding oxygen. There's no need to rush to hospitals as a result of panic, he said, adding that those who need oxygen should get it.

Adding, he said that it was not right if someone thinks he/she needs oxygen, due to lack of knowledge.

Earlier, the Oxygen was available in adequate quantity but now it was being made available from several sources be it from industry, importing from abroad, and making available storage tankers and cryogenic tankers, he said.

Several states have claimed that they don’t have COVID-19 vaccines. To this, the Health Minister said that the Central government has allocated COVID-19 vaccine doses to states as per their performance in terms of vaccination.

He added that the Centre has given more than 16 crore doses of vaccines to states out of which more than 15 crores have been administered. This means over 1 crore doses were still left with the states, he said.
