Jaswinder Bhalla, actor and comedian, is no more; Punjabi cinema in shock

The Punjabi film industry and his fans are mourning the irreparable loss of one of its most loved entertainers

PTC Web Desk: Renowned Punjabi comedian and actor Jaswinder Bhalla passed away today after battling illness for nearly a month. He was 64. His last rites will be performed tomorrow (August 23) in Mohali, as confirmed by Mohali Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi.

Bhalla’s close friend Bal Mukund Sharma expressed deep grief, saying, “This loss can never be filled. We shared a bond of over 40 years. He treated me like his own brother and never made me feel we were from different families. He was truly the patriarch of Punjabi cinema.”

Born on May 4, 1960, in Doraha, Ludhiana, Dr Jaswinder Bhalla was not only a celebrated comedian but also a professor. He began his journey in comedy with “Chhankata 88” in 1988 and made his acting debut in Punjabi cinema with the film “Dulla Bhatti.” Over the decades, he became a household name in Punjab, admired for his wit, iconic characters, and contribution to Punjabi films.
