PTC Web Desk: Panic gripped Mumbai’s Juhu area after unidentified attackers opened fire outside the residence of filmmaker Rohit Shetty in the wee hours of Sunday. According to the Mumbai Police, four rounds were fired near the director’s house at around 3 am.

Following the incident, police and forensic teams rushed to the spot and began collecting evidence. Rohit Shetty lives in a high-profile residential area of Juhu, which is home to several Bollywood celebrities. Security has since been intensified in and around the locality as a precautionary measure.

Police officials said the attackers fled immediately after firing, and no injuries were reported. Multiple teams have been formed to identify the suspects, and CCTV footage from nearby areas is being scanned. The motive behind the firing remains unclear, and no group or individual has claimed responsibility so far.

Recent attacks on celebrities raise concerns

The incident adds to a growing list of attacks and threats targeting celebrities in recent times.

Earlier, comedian and actor Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Canada was fired upon three times last year, in July, August and October. The responsibility for those attacks was claimed by the Lawrence gang, which had also issued threats to Sharma on multiple occasions.

In another major case, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan received a death threat on April 14, 2025. An unknown person sent a WhatsApp message to Mumbai’s Worli Transport Department, threatening to blow up the actor’s car and kill him at his residence. Worli Police registered a case under Sections 351(2) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.

Notably, on April 14, 2024, shots were fired outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments in Bandra. The Lawrence gang had claimed responsibility for that attack. The police arrested seven accused in the case, one of whom later died by suicide.

Authorities are now examining whether the latest firing incident outside Rohit Shetty’s home is linked to earlier attacks on celebrities or criminal gangs operating across borders.
