Karan Johar shares fanboy moment with Meryl Streep during 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' tour
Indian filmmaker Karan Johar recently delighted fans by sharing a deeply personal and emotional experience from his time in Tokyo, Japan, where he met Hollywood icons Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway during the international promotional tour of The Devil Wears Prada 2.
Describing the encounter as Karan Johar wrote, "This is not a caption. This is a confession. I am singularly obsessed and inspired by the unmatchable brilliance of Meryl Streep. In many ways she has been my guru in the art of acting & portraying characters across cinema!!
I have watched The Devil Wears Prada no less than 47 times. I have quoted it at dinner tables, in edit suites and in board meetings (no kidding!) So when I tell you that standing next to HER & them today, I felt the ground shift, please believe me. I tried very hard to be calm and composed but here’s a another confession - my knees were RATTLING! They were both so warm and welcoming. This image is going in my will. Stay tuned, there’s so much more…because I had a chat with the favourites of the season. OH and one more thing…that’s all"
Despite his efforts to remain composed, he admitted that he was overwhelmed with excitement, even joking that his knees were “rattling” in the moment. He also praised both Streep and Hathaway for their warmth and graciousness, making the interaction even more memorable.
The upcoming sequel reunites the original creative team, with director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna returning to helm the project. Alongside the beloved lead cast, the film introduces several new faces, expanding the universe of the iconic fashion drama.
Karan hinted that there is more to come from this special encounter, teasing a conversation with some of the film’s stars and leaving fans eagerly awaiting further updates.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to hit cinemas on May 1, 2026, and anticipation continues to build as fans look forward to revisiting the world of high fashion and fierce ambition.
