Rajpal Yadav clarifies Award Show Joke; says "Saurabh Dwivedi is Younger Brother to me"
Actor Rajpal Yadav recently made headlines online after a light-hearted moment at an award function which sparked mixed reactions. During the event, veteran journalist Saurabh Dwivedi made a playful remark referencing Yadav’s reported Rs. 9 crore cheque-bounce case. While the comment drew laughter from the audience, it also led to speculation and criticism online.
However, it was Rajpal Yadav’s composed and thoughtful response that turned the narrative in his favor, earning him widespread admiration on social media.
Taking to Instagram, Rajpal Yadav addressed the situation and urged fans not to misinterpret the exchange. He explained that the moment was scripted and intended purely for entertainment.
He noted that such misunderstandings are not uncommon in films or live performances, where context can sometimes be lost.
Yadav also emphasized his close bond with the hosts, including Saurabh Dwivedi and Zakir Khan. Describing them as “younger brothers,” he highlighted the mutual respect and affection they share. He further added that artists, journalists, and storytellers are all part of interconnected worlds, underscoring the camaraderie within the creative community.
In a heartfelt message, Rajpal Yadav also appealed to his fans not to direct negativity toward Dwivedi. He expressed that hurting Saurabh would be akin to hurting him, reiterating his affection for both Dwivedi and Zakir Khan.
“I am here because of your love,” he conveyed, thanking his audience for their continued support.
He further reflected, “Sometimes this happens in films too. We design a scene with a certain meaning, but that meaning does not always reach the audience in the way we intend. That is part of cinema and performance.”
Calling the hosts close to him, Rajpal added, “Saurabh and Zakir are like my younger brothers. They have always respected me, and they are very close to my heart. We are all artists, journalists, painters, and storytellers, our worlds are connected.”
He further appealed to viewers not to direct negativity towards Saurabh. “I would request everyone not to criticise Saurabh unnecessarily. Hurting Saurabh’s heart is like hurting mine. I love Saurabh, I love Zakir, and I love all of you. I am here because of your love. Thank you.”
During the screen awards, there was a point of conversation about the ongoing oil crisis and its effect in India. Rajpal Yadav questioned Journalist Saurabh Dwivedi, "Itna Kuch ho raha hai duniya mein. How do I interpret the rupee-dollar fluctuation? Mujhe samaj nahi aa raha jo kuch ho raha hai."
To this, Saurabh responded, “Rajpal bhai, dollar-rupya kitna bhi upar neeche ho, aapko utne hi paise lautane padenge jitne udhaar hain.”
In no time, this statement made everyone laugh out loud, to which Rajpal said, “Masla toh sun lo ek baar."
Zakir Khan also jumped into the conversation and said, “Mere khyal se mamla adalat mein hai toh iss baat ko yahi jaane dete hain
Puting an end to the joke Saurabh said, “No no Rajpal bhai, it’s so good to have you back. We are all very happy. And you are a great actor. Please give a big round of applause to the one and only, Rajpal Yadav.”
