Holi celebrations 2022 Highlights | India celebrates festival of colours; celebs share glimpse of their celebrations

As the celebrations for Holi 2022 began, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings on the festival of colours which is the "symbol of mutual love, affection and brotherhood"; Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said on Thursday that people should strive to strengthen the bonds of friendship and amity that hold the society together.

The Delhi Police has asserted it has made adequate security arrangements for Holi celebrations to keep hooligans at bay and drunken driving in check; the Maharashtra government has urged people to celebrate Holi 2022 without gathering on a large scale, adhering to Covid-appropriate behaviour as the disease is still prevalent.

With Shab-e-Barat also falling on the same day, at least 22 mosques, including prominent ones like Jama Masjid Idgah, Masjid Aishbagh, Ek Minara Masjid at Akbari Gate, Masjid Shahmina Shah and Masjid Chowk, changed the timing of the Friday prayers pushing it after 1.30 pm.

16: 57 pm | As India celebrates Holi and Shab-e-Barat on the same day, Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi stated that this is the beauty of our country that the people celebrate all festivals. (Read more)

16: 18 pm | Megastar Amitabh Bachchan wished his fans Happy Holi and shared a beautiful picture of his wife Jaya Bachchan with caption "Holi ki anek anek shubhkamnaye."

09:35 am | Paresh Rawal extends greetings to fans on Holi on behalf of NSD; says "May this festival of colours brings more joy, prosperity, and health to you."

09: 05 am | Actor-comedian Kapil Sharma wishes fans on Holi.

08: 48 am | Shiromani Alaki Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal extends Holi greeting on Friday, says "Warm greetings to you and your loved ones on this auspicious occasion of Holi!"

08: 15 am | President Ram Nath Kovind greeted the citizens on Holi and wished that the festival infuses joy, enthusiasm and new energy into the lives of all the countrymen.

"Hearty congratulations and best wishes to all the countrymen on the auspicious occasion of Holi. Holi, the festival of colours, is a living example of social harmony and togetherness. It marks the onset of the spring season. I wish that this festival infuses joy, enthusiasm and new energy into the lives of all the countrymen," he said.

07: 43 am | Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to the people of the country on the occasion of Holi.
