Ludhiana bomb blast accused wanted to 'blow off record room'

In a major development, the Ludhiana District Court bomb blast accused, who died in the explosion, has been identified as Gagandeep Singh, who is a resident of Khanna, Punjab, said sources.

He was a former head constable and was dismissed from the service in 2019. He remained in jail for two years and was released in September. He had "drug links".

According to the sources, the close aide of Gagandeep Singh has also revealed that the accused wanted to 'blow off record room'.

Reportedly, Gagandeep Singh wanted to destroy the record of the case registered against him under the NDPS Act. Gagandeep's next hearing for the case was scheduled for December 24, therefore, he planned to blow off the record room.

Initially, he wanted to plant the bomb in the record room, however, the bomb exploded in the washroom while he was assembling the explosives leading to the unfortunate incident.

There has been no information on where did the accused recovered RDX for the bomb. Meanwhile, NIA raided Gagandeep's residence where a laptop and cash were recovered. Also, Gagandeep's two close friends and his brother have been detained.

In the wake of the Ludhiana District court complex bomb blast, Additional forces called in for better policing, said Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Ludhiana Commissioner of Police.

"I want to assure Ludhiana residents that the police force and all government officers are committed to their safety and security. There is no need to panic. Additional forces have been called in for better policing," said Bhullar.

Meanwhile, Security tightened outside the Ludhiana court complex in Punjab after the blast on December 23 that killed one and injured six others.

An FIR was registered on Thursday in the case under the relevant section of the Indian Penal Code, Explosive Substance Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
