Massive fire at Tata Steel plant in Jamshedpur, 2 injured

Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), May 7: A massive fire broke out at Tata Steel company's Coke plant in Jharkhand's Jamshedpur on Saturday in which two workers were injured.

According to reports, the fire was caused by an alleged blast in a battery. The ambulance and five fire tenders were rushed to the spot to control the situation after receiving input about the fire incident.

Tata Steel in its statement informed that two contract employees sustained minor injuries and another employee complained of chest pain. Their condition is stable, the statement added.

"Today, at around 10:20 am (IST), there was a blast in the foul gas line at Battery 6 of Coke Plant at Jamshedpur Works," Tata Steel said.

"Currently, Battery 6 is non-operational and is undergoing a dismantling process," it added.

The incident has been reported to the relevant authorities and an investigation into the incident is underway.

"As a responsible corporate, Tata Steel is committed to safe operations and the safety & wellbeing of all its stakeholders," the statement further said.
