Avalanche hits Himachal's Lahaul area, landslide in Chamba

Shimla, April 2: Traffic movement has been suspended on 19 roads including two national highways after a landslide in the Chamba district while an avalanche occurred in Lahaul on Sunday.

According to reports, a person died in a landslide in Chamba. The deceased has been identified as Devi Prasad from Chamdeu village in Chamba's Salooni area.

Meanwhile, the avalanche occurred on the mountain opposite Shooling village in Lahaul Spiti on Sunday morning. No loss of life or property was reported.

Following Saturday's intermittent rains, shooting stones rolled down a hill near Jindaud village in the Kullu district.

Following poor weather in the state, as many as 19 roads, including two national highways, were blocked to vehicular traffic.

Furthermore, the Meteorological Department has issued a 'yellow' alert for thunderstorms and lightning on April 3 and 4, as a new western disturbance is expected to affect northwest India beginning Sunday night. It also forecasted rain in the region till April 7.

The weather service also warned about crop damage and recommended using anti-hail nets or installing anti-hail guns to save apple crops.
