Chandigarh traffic advisory: Heavy rain floods Tricity; road caves in, bridges collapse
Due to heavy monsoon rainfall, a portion of the road from Transport Light Point towards Grain Market Chowk on Madhya Marg has been washed out, prompting an emergency traffic diversion by the Chandigarh Traffic Police.
PTC News Desk: Flood-like scenes were witnessed in large parts of Tricity with widespread waterlogging and traffic snarls as 72.2 mm rain lashed the city in a span of two hours on Tuesday evening.
Due to heavy monsoon rainfall, a portion of the road from Transport Light Point towards Grain Market Chowk on Madhya Marg has been washed out, prompting an emergency traffic diversion by the Chandigarh Traffic Police.
A road caved in at Sector 28-B in Chandigarh, while shops in the mobile market of Sector 22 were flooded. Traffic jams were seen at several major intersections across the city. In Mohali, scooters and motorcycles broke down in waterlogged areas of Dera Bassi and Naya Gaon. A scooter was also seen being swept away by the water in Dera Bassi, where an ambulance got stuck in severe waterlogging.
Meanwhile, a bridge at a police training camp near Nada Sahib Gurdwara in Panchkula was washed away. In Rajiv Colony, two young men were swept away in a rainwater drain.
Traffic from Panchkula is being diverted from Transport Light Point through the road behind Police Lines towards ITI Light Point. The traffic police have advised motorists to avoid the affected road and use the diversion routes. Drivers have also been asked to follow the instructions of police personnel deployed on the spot and cooperate to maintain smooth traffic movement.

Panchkula Traffic: Traffic coming from Panchkula is diverted from the Transport Light Point via the backside of Police Lines toward the ITI Light Point.
