Delhi BMW crash: Video shows accused Gaganpreet being rescued from overturned car; victim Navjot Singhs kin allege evidence tampering

PTC Web Desk: A fatal road accident in Delhi on Sunday afternoon claimed the life of 52-year-old Navjot Singh, a deputy secretary in the Union Finance Ministry, after a speeding BMW X5 collided with his motorcycle near the Dhaula Kuan–Delhi Cantonment stretch. His wife, Sandeep Kaur, sustained serious injuries in the crash.

According to CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, the BMW, driven by 38-year-old Gaganpreet Kaur, struck a divider before hitting the couple’s two-wheeler close to a metro station. The car overturned, and bystanders were seen helping pull Gaganpreet out of the mangled SUV.

Following the collision, Gaganpreet and her husband, Parikshit Makkar, shifted the injured couple to NuLife Hospital in GTB Nagar, nearly 19 km away from the accident site, with assistance from a passerby. The move has sparked anger from the victim’s family, who questioned why nearby hospitals were bypassed.

Navjot’s son, Navnoor Singh, told ANI that the delay in reaching medical care could have cost his father’s life. Adding to their concerns, it was later revealed that Gaganpreet’s father is one of the owners of NuLife Hospital. The family has accused the hospital of attempting to tamper with evidence related to the case.

The police confirmed that Gaganpreet sustained minor injuries and was arrested on Monday. She has been booked under charges of rash driving, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and destruction of evidence.

Expressing grief, Navjot’s father, Balwant Singh, a retired Indian Air Force officer, said, “My son was very careful on the road. He was a topper and was due for a promotion in six months. Everything is over for us now.”
