Tourists stranded mid-air after technical snag halts Gulmarg Gondola service in Kashmir
PTC Web Desk: Panic gripped tourists in north Kashmir’s Gulmarg on Monday after a technical snag brought the famous Gulmarg Gondola service to a halt, leaving nearly 300 visitors stranded mid-air inside cable cars.
According to officials, the gondola service stopped al of sudden due to a fault in the system, triggering an immediate rescue operation. Teams from the Army’s 9 Raj Rif, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the civil administration rushed to the spot to evacuate stranded tourists safely.
Officials said the SDM and Tehsildar of Tangmarg also reached the site to supervise the rescue efforts and monitor the situation closely.
Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic among passengers, especially women and children, after the cable cars remained suspended for a prolonged period. However, authorities assured that the situation was under control and that evacuation was being carried out smoothly and systematically.
Technical experts were also deployed to identify the exact cause of the malfunction and restore the gondola service at the earliest.
The Gulmarg Gondola, one of Asia’s highest cable car projects and a major tourist attraction in Kashmir, witnesses heavy tourist footfall during the summer season.
