Domestic LPG cylinder price increased by Rs 29, second hike in three months
With effect from June 7, the cost of a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder in Delhi has gone up from Rs 913 to Rs 942, industry sources said.
PTC News Desk: Domestic LPG prices have been increased by Rs 29 per cylinder, marking the second hike in the past three months as state-owned fuel retailers continue to face pressure from high global energy prices.
With effect from June 7, the cost of a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder in Delhi has gone up from Rs 913 to Rs 942, industry sources said.
The latest revision comes after a Rs 60-per-cylinder increase on March 7, introduced following disruptions to global energy supplies caused by the conflict in West Asia, which pushed up international fuel prices. Sources said the new hike only partially compensates for losses incurred on domestic LPG sales.
Before the latest increase, state-run oil marketing companies were reportedly losing around Rs 703 on every LPG cylinder sold.
The LPG price revision is part of a wider increase in fuel rates. Since mid-May, petrol and diesel prices have risen by a total of Rs 7.5 per litre, while CNG prices have gone up by nearly Rs 6 per kg.
Industry sources said oil companies are still selling petrol and diesel below cost, with estimated losses of about Rs 11 per litre on petrol and Rs 33.6 per litre on diesel.
The government has so far refrained from passing on the full burden of rising international energy costs to consumers, instead absorbing part of the impact through state-owned fuel retailers amid continued volatility in global crude oil and fuel markets.
