Gurugram double murder: Man shoots wife, son dead over domestic dispute in Ashok Vihar
PTC News Desk: A 52-year-old man allegedly shot dead his wife and son following a domestic dispute at their home in Ashok Vihar Phase III, Sector 5, in Gurugram early Sunday. Police have arrested the accused and seized the licensed firearm believed to have been used in the crime.
The victims were identified as Asha Rani (45) and Prashant Kumar (23). Both sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Sector 10A, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
According to police, the incident occurred between 12.30 am and 1 am. The exact motive behind the killings is yet to be established, and investigators said further details will emerge after the accused is thoroughly questioned.
The suspect was employed as a security guard with a private company and possessed a licensed firearm issued in his name. Preliminary investigations suggest the shooting may have been triggered by a heated domestic argument.
“Prima facie, it appears the incident occurred in a fit of rage following a family dispute. However, the exact circumstances will become clear only after detailed interrogation,” a police officer said.
Police were alerted after neighbours reported hearing multiple gunshots. Patrol teams rushed to the residence and found the woman and her son lying unresponsive. Forensic experts later examined the scene and collected evidence for ballistic and forensic analysis.
A neighbour, speaking on condition of anonymity, said disagreements among the family members were not uncommon. “They often argued over minor domestic issues. Last night, a serious altercation broke out, after which the accused allegedly took out his firearm and shot both his wife and son. We heard at least five to six gunshots,” the neighbour said.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and further details are awaited.
