PTC Web Desk: A 40-year-old man allegedly killed his five-year-old daughter before dying by suicide at their home in Amreli district of Gujarat, the police said on Friday. The incident has shocked the local community, with the police linking the tragedy to the man’s financial problems.

The man, identified as Kishore Dhanak, worked as a construction site supervisor. The police said he was at home with his daughter Himanshi on Wednesday when he allegedly suffocated her by covering her mouth with his hand.

After killing the child, Dhanak allegedly placed her body inside a refrigerator and later hanged himself from a ceiling fan.

The police found three notes at the house. According to the FIR, Dhanak had written about his financial difficulties and said he had taken a personal loan and invested the money in construction work.

His wife, Manjuben, told the police that Dhanak was expecting to receive around Rs 7.25 lakh from business associates but had not received the money. The FIR states that he was under financial pressure and felt he had no way out.

In another note, Dhanak allegedly said he killed his daughter because he did not want her to suffer after his death. A third note reportedly contained an apology and mentioned that he had kept the child’s body in the refrigerator.

Wife raised alarm after calls went unanswered

The incident came to light after Manjuben, who had gone to her father’s house on September 14, was unable to contact her husband.

She then asked her brother to check on the family home on Wednesday evening. When nobody responded, the door was forced open. Dhanak was found hanging from the ceiling fan.

The police said the room contained several unusual details. It had been decorated with balloons and candles, while chocolates were kept inside the room and the refrigerator.

According to Inspector PL Chaudhary, the child had been dressed in white clothes, with a dupatta placed over her head. Cushions had also been placed inside the refrigerator, while tulsi leaves were found on the child’s lips.

A paper carrying the words “Happy Birthday Himanshi” was also found on the refrigerator, although it was not the child’s birthday.

The police said a puja had also been performed in the room, where idols were placed amid the decorations.

Rajula Deputy Superintendent of Police Nayana Goradiya said the circumstances surrounding the deaths were being investigated.

The police have registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the alleged murder of the child. Further investigation is underway.
