Two terrorists neutralised in late-night encounter with security forces in J&K's Udhampur
PTC News Desk: Two terrorists likely to be associated with Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were neutralised in an encounter with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on late Wednesday night.
Security forces launched a major cordon and search operation in the Sohan area following inputs regarding the suspicious movement of individuals in the region.
Following that, security forces and the terrorists were involved in a heavy gunbattle.
In the early hours of the morning, security forces recovered the bodies of terrorists suspected to be foreign nationals and believed to be linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). Arms and ammunition were also recovered from the spot.
The joint operation was carried out by the Rashtriya Rifles, Para (Special Forces) and Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The Udhampur gunfight came days after an alleged Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander was killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district on September 5.
The terrorist, identified as Yasir, was reportedly associated with the Sulaiman Musa group of LeT. However, sources said he had separated from the group around a year ago and had been operating independently since then.
Security agencies had been tracking Yasir’s movements and monitoring his activities in the Yousmarg area of Budgam for some time before the encounter.
3 OGWs arrested in Rajouri on September 15
Earlier, on September 15, Rajouri Police uncovered an overground worker (OGW) network linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operating in the Pir Panjal region. Three people — Zakir Hussain, Mohammad Azam and Mohammad Mushtaq — were arrested in connection with the case.
According to police, a preliminary investigation found that the three were allegedly providing logistical support, safe routes and other ground-level assistance to terrorists. Police also said they were working as guides for terrorists and helping them travel towards the Kashmir Valley.
An IED was also recovered based on information provided by one of the accused in the Rajouri case. According to police, the preliminary investigation indicated that the IED had allegedly been handed over to the accused by a terrorist group for safe storage and possible use in an attack.
Police are now investigating the roles of the arrested accused and working to identify other people allegedly linked to the network.
