Haryana: CA kills wife in Bahadurgarh, tries to stage robbery; arrested within 18 hours
Jhajjar Police arrested a chartered accountant in Bahadurgarh for allegedly murdering his wife Mahak and staging a robbery
PTC Web Desk: What initially appeared to be a late-night robbery in Haryana’s Bahadurgarh has turned into a chilling case of alleged domestic murder, with the police arresting a chartered accountant for killing his wife and attempting to mislead investigators.
According to the Jhajjar police, the accused, identified as Anshul Dhawan, called authorities around 11 pm on Sunday, claiming that unidentified assailants had attacked him and fatally injured his wife, Mahak, by slitting her throat during a robbery attempt.
However, officers said inconsistencies in his version of events quickly raised suspicion. During questioning, Anshul allegedly failed to provide clear details about the supposed attackers and repeatedly altered his statement. Investigators said the contradictions prompted a deeper probe into his account. Within 18 hours of the incident, the police said the case was cracked.
During sustained interrogation, Anshul allegedly confessed to murdering his wife. Police sources revealed that he had been harbouring suspicions about Mahak’s character for some time, leading to frequent disputes between the couple. These tensions, investigators claim, culminated in the fatal assault.
Mahak was employed with HDFC Bank in Gurugram, while Anshul worked as a chartered accountant in the same city. The couple had married on September 25 last year. Anshul is a resident of Hisar, while Mahak hailed from Hansi.
The police said the accused allegedly wore gloves during the crime to avoid leaving fingerprints. He is believed to have first strangled his wife before using a pair of scissors to slit her throat.
Mahak’s father Krishna Kathuria reportedly suspected foul play from the outset and had raised concerns with investigators.
The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway. The police are also examining the sequence of events leading up to the incident.
