Indian Navy was minutes away from striking Pakistan during Operation Sindoor: Navy Chief

PTC Web Desk:  Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, has revealed that the Indian Navy was very close to launching a sea-based strike on Pakistan during Operation Sindoor last year, but held back after a request from the neighbouring country.

Speaking at a naval investiture ceremony in Mumbai, Admiral Tripathi said the Navy had reached a high level of operational readiness and was only minutes away from action when Pakistan asked India to stop military operations.

“It is now known that we were just minutes away from carrying out a strike from the sea when a request came from their side to pause the action,” he said.

He added that the Navy played a crucial role during the Operation Sindoor, which helped boost public confidence in the armed forces.

The Navy chief also highlighted a special moment during the operation, when the Prime Minister spent 17 hours onboard a naval vessel along the western coast. According to him, this journey showcased the Navy’s strength and preparedness.

During the ceremony, Admiral Tripathi presented Yudh Seva Medals to two senior naval officers for their contribution to Operation Sindoor.

India had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, targeting terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam Terror Attack that killed 26 persons, mostly tourists.

Meanwhile, despite claims by US President Donald Trump about mediating a ceasefire, India has maintained that the decision to stop military action was taken through direct talks between the military leadership of both countries.
