'Try any misadventure and face unmatched response': Rajnath Singh issues stern warning to Pakistan amid Iran war

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday sent a stern warning to Pakistan against any "misadventure" under the shadow of the war in Iran.

"Our neighbour, given the current situation, could attempt some kind of misadventure. If that happens, India's response will be unprecedented and decisive," the defence minister said, underscoring that Operation Sindoor was not over yet.

Rajnath Singh warned Pakistan, recalling how Indian forces brought it to its knees in just 22 minutes during Operation Sindoor. The operation was launched days after Lashkar terrorists killed 25 tourists in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22. However, he did not specify what kind of “misadventure” Pakistan might attempt or whether there was any specific intelligence input.

During the three-day operation, India destroyed nine terror camps deep inside Pakistan and struck key military bases, some of which are still under repair. The hostilities ended after Pakistan sought a ceasefire on May 10.

"Whether it was the surgical strikes after the Uri attack, the air strikes following Pulwama, or now Operation Sindoor... we have delivered a strong blow to terrorism," Rajnath further said.

His remarks come amid reports in Pakistani media suggesting that India could be planning a “false flag” operation against Islamabad using Pakistani nationals allegedly in Indian custody—claims for which no evidence has been presented. A report in the Pakistani daily Dawn alleged such a move could be aimed at diverting attention from Pakistan’s mediation efforts in the ongoing US-Iran conflict.

Pakistan has projected itself as a possible mediator, but Iran has dismissed these claims, stating it did not participate in any such initiative, leaving Islamabad in an awkward position.

Another factor behind Rajnath Singh’s warning is Pakistan’s recent military posture in the region. Despite a fragile ceasefire being in place since November, Pakistan abruptly escalated tensions with Afghanistan, declaring what was described as an “open war,” even as the US and Israel carried out strikes on Iran on February 28.
