PTC Web Desk:  At least 10 persons, including six school students, were injured after a private school bus overturned in the Jaisinghpur subdivision of Kangra district on Tuesday morning, police officials said.

The accident took place on the Lahat–Shivnagar link road near Shivnagar when the bus, carrying around 15 children, lost balance and overturned while negotiating a turn. Apart from the students, two teachers, the driver and the conductor also sustained injuries in the mishap.

Police personnel rushed to the spot soon after receiving information and carried out rescue operations. All the injured were taken to Civil Hospital, Palampur, where doctors said their condition was stable and out of danger.

The incident triggered panic among parents and residents of nearby areas, many of whom hurried to the accident site after hearing about the accident. The bus was reportedly operated by a private school located at Pahara village near Panchrukhi.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver failed to control the vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve. However, the driver maintained that the accident occurred due to the poor and damaged condition of the road, claiming that the bus was being driven at a normal speed.

Local residents also alleged that the Lahat–Shivnagar road has become increasingly unsafe due to poor maintenance and increasing traffic.

The police have registered a case against the bus driver, though no arrests have been made so far. Further investigation is currently underway.
