UP Ambedkar Nagar accident: In a tragic late-night incident, eight persons were killed after a speeding car ran into a group of bystanders in Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkar Nagar district, the police said on Monday. The accident occurred around 11.30 pm on Sunday near Ashrafpur Bhua village along the Jalalpur-Akbarpur road, according to Additional Superintendent of Police (East) Tejvir Singh.
The victims were part of a crowd that had gathered at the spot moments earlier, after two motorcycles collided, leaving two riders injured. As locals rushed to offer help and assess the situation, a fast-moving car suddenly veered into the group.
The injured were immediately taken to a nearby community health centre, where six persons were declared dead on arrival. Two others, who were in critical condition, were referred to the district hospital and later shifted to a facility in Tanda. Both succumbed to their injuries during treatment, taking the death toll to eight.
The deceased have been identified as Kaifi (32), Uttam Kumar (24), Aditya Kumar (25), Lalchand (24), Raju Gupta (32), and Chhotu. The identities of two victims are yet to be confirmed.
The police said the driver of the car fled the scene after the incident. A manhunt has been launched to trace and arrest the accused.
Authorities have initiated a detailed investigation to determine the exact sequence of events and fix responsibility in the case.
