PTC Web Desk: A 65-year-old daily wage labourer has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting and subsequently murdering a four-year-old girl at Nasrapur village in the Bhor area of Pune district, Maharashtra. The crime came came to light on Friday.

As per information, the victim was visiting her maternal grandmother during school holidays. However, she went missing on Friday afternoon. When the family scanned CCTV footage from the area, the accused was seen taking the girl toward a cattle shed.


On the basis of the footage, the police tracked him down and arrested him. The girl's body was recovered from inside the shed, where it had been hidden.

Pune SP Sandeep Singh Gill said the accused promised the child food before luring her away. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act.  The trial will be taken up by a fast-track court.

As soon the news of the crime spread, hundreds of villagers reached the local police outpost demanding justice. Protesters blocked a stretch of the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway, bringing traffic to a standstill for hours. Locals also initially refused to allow the police to take the body for a post-mortem examination, insisting on visible assurances of accountability before relenting.
