Emergence of Omicron subvariant BF.7 in China has left several infected

New Delhi, January 26: India reported 196 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The infection tally has risen to 4,46,77,302 and the number of active cases stands at 3,428, A total of 5,30,695 persons have succumbed to the infection so far, revealed the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Monday.

As per the Union Health Ministry data, 35,173 Covid tests were conducted across the country in the past 24 hours. The daily positivity rate is 0.56%, and the weekly positivity was pegged at 0.16%, says the data.

Amid rising Covid cases in China and other countries, threat also looms large over India. The emergence of Omicron subvariant BF.7 in China has left several infected.

The Central as well as state governments have intensified testing and vaccination process in the country to prevent severe outbreak.  Airports have been asked to conduct random sampling of international arrivals from China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Thailand.

The Centre has also made random Covid testing mandatory for 2 per cent of passengers arriving on each international flight.
