PTC Web Desk: Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi has been appointed as the new Chief of Army Staff, effective June 30.

He would succeed General Manoj Pande, who is slated to retire on June 30.

Lt Gen Dwivedi will become the 30th Army Chief after previously serving as Vice Chief of Army Staff, Northern Army Commander, DG Infantry, and in a variety of other senior positions within the army.

Lt Gen Dwivedi, a staunch supporter of incorporating modern technologies into operations, has considerable experience operating on both the China and Pakistan borders.

Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, a Sainik School alumni from Rewa (MP), was commissioned into the 18 JAMMU & KASHMIR RIFLES in 1984, where he later served as commander.

The General officer has had the unique distinction of receiving equal exposure to both the Northern and Western Theatres.

During his illustrious 39-year career, he has held leadership positions in challenging operational conditions across the country. He commanded the unit in both Kashmir Valley and Rajasthan. He previously served as Sector Commander and Inspector General of the Assam Rifles in a high-risk counter-terrorism setting in the Northeast.

Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi led the Rising Star Corps in an operational role in the Western Borders. He later commanded the famous Northern Army from 2022 to 2024, in an exceedingly difficult operational situation along both the northern and western borders.

During his command, he provided strategic leadership and operational control for the planning and execution of long-term operations along the northern and western borders, as well as coordinated dynamic counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
