PTC Web Desk: In a significant development linked to the recent car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has detained an MBBS student from West Bengal’s Uttar Dinajpur district for alleged links to terror networks. The student, identified as Janisur Alam, also known as Nisar Alam, is enrolled at Al-Falah University in Haryana and hails originally from Konal village near Dalkhola. He currently resides in Ludhiana.

According to a senior police official, Alam was picked up from the Surjapur Bazar area while returning from a family wedding at his ancestral village. Investigators tracked his movements using mobile tower locations before intercepting him. He was taken into custody after allegedly attempting to flee during questioning.

Authorities suspect that Alam may have information relevant to the Delhi Red Fort car blast, which killed 13 persons and injured several others. While the incident has been officially termed a terrorist attack, the NIA has not yet provided details on Alam’s exact role or connection. Officers confirmed that digital devices and documents were seized from him for further forensic examination.

Another officer noted that Alam had been seen moving “suspiciously” near a local railway station earlier, raising concerns that eventually led to his detention. He has now been taken to Siliguri for deeper interrogation.

Meanwhile, Alam’s family strongly refuted the allegations, describing him as a quiet, dedicated student with no history of troubling behaviour. His uncle expressed disbelief, calling the accusations “shocking”, while his mother insisted that her son has always followed the law.

The NIA, still tight-lipped regarding the nature of evidence against Alam, is exploring all possible leads, including whether he had any association with extremist groups.

In a related operation following the Delhi blast, the agency also conducted a raid at the residence of migrant worker Moinul Hasan in Murshidabad’s Nabagram area. Investigators are examining Hasan’s past connections, particularly with a Bangladeshi national he lived with while working intermittently in Delhi and Mumbai, and whether he had any link to Alam.
