PTC Web Desk: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said alleged international drug trafficker Navpreet Singh has been deported from Türkiye and brought back to India.
In a post on X, Amit Shah said Navpreet Singh had obtained Turkish citizenship by allegedly using a fake identity, Navab Virk. He accused Navpreet Singh of being involved in the smuggling of heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan to India.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Indian agencies traced Navpreet Singh and uncovered his alleged identity before securing his deportation. According to the Home Minister, Navpreet Singh has now been taken into custody in India in connection with drug trafficking and other criminal cases.
The Home Minister also praised the agencies involved in tracking down and bringing Singh back to India.
Who Is Navpreet Singh?
Navpreet Singh, also known as Nav, was allegedly linked to an international narcotics network with operations connecting India, Afghanistan and Türkiye. Investigators have described him as a key figure based in Türkiye, while his cousin, Prabhdeep Singh, was allegedly involved in coordinating the network's activities in India.
The investigation reportedly began in 2021 after Rizwan Kashmiri was arrested in south Delhi. During questioning, investigators allegedly uncovered links to a wider drug network involving several Indian states and Afghan nationals.
The probe later resulted in large heroin seizures in Faridabad. Officials said 166 kg of heroin was recovered from one vehicle, while another 115 kg was seized from a second vehicle.
Investigation into international drug network
The investigation also led to action against other alleged members of the syndicate, including Prabhdeep Singh, who was described by investigators as Navpreet Singh's cousin and an important link in the network operating in India.
Authorities have continued to investigate the alleged international connections of the syndicate and the movement of narcotics between Afghanistan, Türkiye and India.
