PTC News Desk: A sacrilege case from a gurdwara in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar has come to light where police has been accused to allegedly disrespecting the sanctity of a gurdwara and arresting Tajinder Pal Singh Timma, the state president of the Sikh Dharam Prachar Committee, Rajasthan. Police reportedly detained Timma while he was present at Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Gurdwara Sahib.

The incident has caused anger among the Sikh community. Sikh organisations from Rajasthan and Punjab, farmers' organisations and Guru Nanak Leva Sangat have reportedly been urged to gather at the gurdwara in Sri Ganganagar.

The action was reportedly carried out by the Kotwali Police of Sri Ganganagar police station and was led by Station House Officer Tejwant Singh Brar. The SHO said Timma was arrested following a complaint by an immigration operator.

What does the police say?

Sri Ganganagar Kotwali SHO Tejwant Singh said the arrest was related to a dispute between Sikh leader Tajinder Singh Timma and an immigration operator. He said the police team had gone to the gurdwara in civilian clothes and did not damage anything or commit any act of disrespect. He alleged that claims of such misconduct were being made to provoke the Sikh community.

SGPC demands Timma's immediate release

Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said Sikh leader Tajinderpal Singh Timma has been raising issues concerning the Sikh community for a long time. He alleged that his arrest in what he described as a false case was an attempt to silence his voice.

Dhami said the Rajasthan government's and police administration's actions reflected an alleged discriminatory and high-handed attitude towards Sikhs.

He demanded an impartial investigation into the entire incident at Gurdwara Baba Deep Singh Ji in Ganganagar. He also called for strict action against anyone found responsible for violating the sanctity of the gurdwara or hurting Sikh religious sentiments.

Dhami further demanded a fair investigation into the case registered against Tajinderpal Singh Timma and called for his immediate release.
