RTI activist seeks investigation into Abhijit Dipkes foreign education, financial background

PTC News Desk: A Surat-based RTI activist has sought an investigation into the finances of Abhijeet Dipke's family, questioning how his father, a retired Maharashtra government employee, was able to fund his son's higher education abroad.

The activist, Amit Tiwari, has also written to the Election Commission of India and tax authorities, requesting a review of the ₹1 crore legal defence fund announced by senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal for CJP protesters facing police cases.

"The Cockroach Janta Party is an unregistered entity but is operating as a political party. If Rs 1 crore has been pledged to it as a legal defence fund, then the EC should verify whether the CJP is registered with it under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951," Tiwari said.

"If not registered, then its operation under the name of a political party and collection/receipt of funds may require examination," he added.

In his representation, Tiwari asked authorities to examine the financial status of Bhagwanrao Dipke, arguing that, as a retired government employee, the source of funds used for his son's overseas education should be verified.

Tiwari also questioned the legal status of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and whether it is permitted to collect funds while operating under the name of a political party.

Additionally, he approached the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, seeking clarification on whether Goods and Services Tax (GST) would apply to Sibal's proposed contribution to the legal defence fund.

Earlier this week, Kapil Sibal announced a ₹1 crore contribution to a fund set up by the CJP to provide legal assistance to protesters arrested by Delhi Police during the agitation over the NEET paper leak controversy.
