Surajkund Mela accident: Cop dead, 12 injured as swing collapses mid-air, horrific moment caught on cam

PTC News Desk: A police inspector died and at least 13 people were injured after a large swing broke and fell during the Surajkund Mela in Faridabad on Saturday evening, causing panic among visitors.


The incident happened around 6 pm when a ride called “Tsunami” stopped working properly and tilted before crashing while about 15 to 26 people were on it. People lost balance and some parts of the ride broke.

Inspector Jagdish Prasad, who was on fair duty and posted in Palwal, ran towards the ride after seeing it tilt. While trying to help people get to safety, a part of the swing hit his face and head, seriously injuring him. He later died while receiving treatment.


Officials said 13 people were hurt in the accident, including two women constables. Most people had minor injuries, while two or three suffered serious injuries. All injured people were conscious and are being treated at nearby hospitals.



District officials, including Deputy Commissioner Ayush Sinha, Tourism MD Parth Gupta and senior police officers, reached the spot soon after the incident. The area was barricaded to prevent further mishaps and ambulances were rushed in to shift the injured.


"At about 6.15 pm, a joyride collapsed at Surajkund. Around 13 people were injured and taken to hospital. A police inspector who tried to save people was declared dead after being hit on the head and face," Ayush Sinha said.
