Union Budget 2025: Expansion of medical education, boost to skill based development

Nirmala Sitharaman has announced establishment of five centers of excellence for AI in education, health and agriculture to foster innovation and technological advancements.

The union budget tabled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday laid out the objectives to prepare a taskforce for future with key focus on education, skills and technological innovation. The artificial intelligence in education has also received major push in the budget 2025-26. 


Nirmala Sitharaman has announced establishment of five centers of excellence for AI in education, health and agriculture to foster innovation and technological advancements.


Expanding Medical Education

The government has announced to expand medical education by introducing 10,000 additional seats in medical colleges and hospitals across the country in the upcoming year. The move seems to align with government's plan to add 75,000 seats in the next five years.


Digital learning

Sitharaman said that over the next five years, 50,000 Atal Tinkering Labs will be established in government schools "to encourage scientific temper and innovation" among students.


Boost to Skilled work

The finance minister has laid out a comprehensive programme that will be launched in partnership with the state governments to create more employment opportunities and enhance skill driven development especially in the rural areas.
