PTC News Desk: Apple Inc. has named Indian-origin executive and longtime company insider Sabih Khan as its Chief Operating Officer as party of organisational restructure. Khan will be succeeding Jeff Williams in a planned leadership transition and will assume the role later this month. Currently he is serving as Senior Vice President of Operations.
Jeff Williams, who has held the COO position since 2015, will continue to report to CEO Tim Cook and oversee the Apple Watch and design teams. Apple stated that the design team will report directly to Cook once Williams retires later this year.
WHO IS SABIH KHAN?
Khan hails from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh and moved to Singapore before relocating to the United States. He completed dual bachelors degree in economics and mechanical engineering from Tufts University and a master’s in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
He began his career at GE plastics and later joined Apple’s procurement team in 1995. Since then he has been company's 'all-weather-ally' and played a significant role in shaping Apple's supply chain.
