SWAT teams, snippers and drones: Multi-layered security grid blankets Delhi ahead of Putin's visit, high alert issued

PTC News Desk: Ahead of the highly-anticipated visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the national capital has been turned into a fortress with high alert issued across the national capital. Putin is expected to land by Thursday evening for his two-day visit to India.


Soon after landing he will be meeting Prime Minister Modi for a private dinner hosted at PM's residence. Putin and Modi will also be taking part in the 23rd India-Russia annual strategic summit. 

Ahead of Putin's arrival, the national capital stays on high alert with SWAT teams and heavy security deployment. According to reports, the moment from Putin's touchdown to his departure, every moment will be closely monitored and tracked by multiple security units. 

"Minute-to-minute coordination is underway, and all concerned agencies have been instructed to maintain maximum vigilance throughout. Over 5,000 police personnel will be deployed to maintain strict vigil," officer familiar with the development said. 

Delhi Police officials further highlighted that security on traffic routes will also be closely monitored.  A multi-layerd security system has been put in place with SWAT teams, anti-terror units, snippers, stationed at critical points. 

This is Putin’s first visit to India since 2021 and holds significant importance as it aligns with the 25th anniversary of the India–Russia strategic partnership and the 23rd annual summit between the two nations. Upon arrival, Putin will attend a private dinner hosted by PM Modi at his official residence. On Friday, he will receive a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan with a tri-service Guard of Honour, followed by a tribute at Rajghat. He will then engage in formal talks with PM Modi at Hyderabad House. Key announcements and the signing of agreements are likely after their discussions, along with a joint statement to the media.

Putin will be accompanied by several senior ministers, including Defence Minister Andrei Belousov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut, Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov, Health Minister Mikhail Murashko, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev and Transport Minister Roman Nikitin, as well as Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina.
