A man set his motorbike on fire after Delhi Traffic Police issued a challan to him for violating traffic rules in Sheikh Sarai area of Delhi on Thursday. Police said the man was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. On Sunday, Delhi Police issued as many as 3,900 challans. Recently, a two-wheeler driver fined Rs 23,000 in Gurugram refused to pay up saying his scooter cost only Rs 15,000.
Three auto-rickshaw drivers were also fined Rs 9,400, Rs 27,000 and Rs 37,000 in Gurugram. Delhi traffic police personnel will now wear body cameras to ensure transparency and appropriate action against defaulters, said joint commissioner, Delhi Traffic Police, Narendra Singh Bundela.

Under the Motor Vehicle Amendment Act, 2019 which was implemented on September 1, 2019, fines for traffic violations have been increased by 10 times the previous amounts. The act was passed in Rajya Sabha on July 31.
