PM Modi, French President Macron discuss India-France ties, early resolution of Ukraine conflict

PTC Web Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday, discussing bilateral cooperation and global issues, with a focus on resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
During the call, both leaders assessed the progress in key areas of India-France collaboration, including defence, space, climate action, and technology. Modi described the discussion as “very good” and emphasised the importance of diplomacy and peace in addressing international crises.
The leaders also reviewed recent developments in the region and the world, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the India-France Strategic Partnership. “Had a very good conversation with President Macron. We reviewed and positively assessed the progress in bilateral cooperation in various areas,” Modi said on social media.
The conversation comes shortly after President Macron’s announcement at the Paris summit regarding the deployment of a “reassurance force” in Ukraine. The summit included Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other global leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who joined remotely.
Additionally, PM Modi thanked President Macron for accepting the invitation to India’s AI Impact Summit scheduled for February 2026, expressing eagerness to host him in India. Both leaders agreed to continue close collaboration to promote global peace and stability.
