EC extends special revision of electoral rolls in six states and UTs; new draft roll dates announced
PTC Web Desk: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday announced an extension of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) timelines for electoral rolls across six states and Union territories after receiving requests from their respective chief electoral officers. The revised schedule aims to ensure comprehensive voter inclusion ahead of the publication of final rolls next year.
According to the updated timeline, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat will continue their enumeration work until December 14, with draft electoral rolls now set to be released on December 19.
For Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the enumeration period has been pushed to December 18, and the draft rolls will be published on December 23.
Uttar Pradesh has received the longest extension, with the enumeration continuing until December 26. The draft rolls for the state will be issued on December 31.
As per the EC’s statement, there is no change in the schedule for Goa, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Rajasthan and West Bengal, where the enumeration concludes on Thursday, and the draft electoral rolls will be issued on December 16.
Kerala’s timeline, revised earlier, allows enumeration to continue until December 18, with the draft roll scheduled for release on December 23.
The Election Commission has also urged all eligible citizens, particularly first-time voters, to submit Form 6 either through block-level officers or via the ECINet app and portal to ensure their names are included in the final electoral rolls to be published in February 2025.
