'Woof Woof': Congress MP Renuka Chowdhary's bizarre reply over dog row

PTC News Desk: Congress MP Renuka Chowdhary who made headlines for bringing a dog to the Parliament and then taking potshots over fellow lawmakers, issued a short and quirky reply to the media when when asked about a possible privilege motion in the Rajya Sabha. When the media questioned her about the motion, she playfully said “Bhau Bhau” before walking away.

Chowdhury stayed firm when questioned further. “If they want to move a motion against me, they can go ahead. It doesn’t bother me. Former Prime Minister Vajpayee once arrived on a bullock cart. Dogs hold significant value in Hinduism. I have broken no rules,” she said, brushing aside warnings from BJP leaders.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament on Wednesday, the Rajya Sabha MP criticised the government for focusing on the dog incident instead of addressing more important issues. The controversy began after Chowdhury entered the Parliament complex with a dog in her vehicle. Security personnel allegedly stopped her at the gate and advised her not to bring the dog inside, but she insisted on proceeding.

“People are dying because of pollution, BLOs are committing suicide, labour laws are being forced on us, the Sanchar Saathi app is being imposed, but Renuka Chowdhury’s dog has rattled everyone. What can I say?” she remarked, adding that she would continue caring for animals.

Although the dog was sent back shortly afterward, its brief presence sparked a debate over Parliament protocol.

Chowdhury later defended her actions, saying she had rescued the puppy after spotting it near an accident site.

“I was afraid it might get run over, so I picked it up and brought it here, then sent it back home,” she explained.

The Congress leader further intensified the controversy with a sharp jab at her critics: “Those who bite are sitting inside Parliament and running the government. Is there no problem with that? But if I care for an animal, it becomes a national discussion.”
